Pediatrics is a branch of Medicine that cares for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. The Department of Pediatrics at Saraswathi Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 2008 and has evolved over the years into one of the best tertiary care centers. The dedicated Pediatric team is known for compassionate and holistic care, attracting patients from distant places to our Institute.

Research & Innovation
Apart from offering high-quality clinical care, we are also active in research and innovation, constantly updating and advancing preventive and rehabilitative services. The valuable support from other specialties such as Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurology, ENT, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy ensures that we offer the best comprehensive care to the child. In addition, there are 24-hour laboratory services and blood transfusion services with facilities for component therapy.
Pediatric Ward
The Pediatric ward consists of 120 beds with 30 beds in each unit, along with 20 beds in PICU, 10 beds in NICU. OPD runs between 9 AM and 4 PM along with 24-hour emergency services.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU is a 10-bedded unit, with around 1200 admissions a year. The unit comprises intensive care, high dependency care, and special care facilities, along with routine newborn care. We offer advanced neonatal care, including the care of extreme premature babies, mechanical ventilation, parenteral nutrition, CPAP, surfactant therapy, and phototherapy units.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
The PICU is a 20-bedded unit with around 1400 admissions per year. It includes intensive care facilities like ventilator support, CPAP support, and oxygen support. We specialize in managing cases such as status epilepticus, diabetic ketoacidosis, tubercular meningitis, and pleural effusion.

Recent Achievements in the Department
- PG seats have increased from 4 to 8.
- Our 2 PG students won gold medals in PG final exams for two consecutive years: Dr. Nidhi (2022) and Dr. Rasbihari (2023).
- All vaccines are given free of cost as per the National Immunization Schedule, in collaboration with district government hospitals under the permission of the District Immunization Officer.
- Frequent health camps are organized in nearby rural areas and schools.
- Guest lectures by eminent speakers.
- BNRP courses conducted for interns, UG, PG students, and faculty.
- Important health-related days like National Deworming Day, ORS Day, CP Day, and Breastfeeding Week are celebrated through role plays, poster presentations, quizzes, etc.
