Department of Biochemistry
BiochemistryBiochemistry
Biochemistry deals with the study of structure, composition, and chemical reactions of substances in living systems. The goal of the curriculum in Biochemistry is to empower students to conceptualize and explain biochemical events of life processes in health and disease, enabling them to apply biochemical knowledge and skills for problem-solving in clinical situations and scientific research to help further understanding of life processes at the molecular level. The curriculum offers students opportunities to build a career in a variety of sectors, including research and non-research careers in academia or wherever they choose to work after completing their degree. The present course includes core classes incorporating principles of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and genetics with laboratory techniques in diagnostic labs. Very well-structured and elaborative training and learning sessions are provided to students by highly experienced and skilled professionals and faculty members.
Vision:
The Department of Biochemistry goes with the vision of this institute by providing elaborative knowledge and practical exposure.
Mission:
The mission of the department is to train well and develop highly skilled individuals.
Objectives:
- Apply fundamental concepts of the core areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology to a research problem in any specialized area of research.
- Understand and interpret the fundamental concepts in biomedical sciences, particularly for the detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
- Develop scientific temper and acquire experience for proficiency while promoting a healthy life.
- Appreciate the socio-psychological, cultural, economic, and environmental factors affecting health, developing a humane attitude towards patients in discharging professional responsibilities.
- Possess the attitude for continued self-learning and seek further expertise in their area of specialization.

Facilities Available in the Department:
The department has a well-equipped laboratory in the college block to teach and train undergraduate medical students with a capacity of about 95 students at a time. A research lab with basic instruments for collaborative projects with PG (MD/MS) students from different departments is available in the college block. An advanced lab with a fully auto analyzer, semi-auto analyzer, electrolytes analyzer, mini vidas, and ABG analyzer is functional round the clock in the hospital block with well-trained technicians under the supervision of faculty.
