The Department of Community Medicine carries out its primary task of teaching and training of UG (MBBS), PG (MD) students, and interns in Community Medicine. The Department collaborates with the District Hospital in planning and implementation of several National Health Programs such as the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme and the Universal Immunization Programme.
Research in the areas of Public Health and Community Health are essential aspects of the activities carried out by the department. The department has two well-established training centers: the Urban Health Training Center situated at Hapur, 12 km away, and the Rural Health Training Center located at Makhimpur, about 8 km from the college.

- To train doctors who can provide comprehensive health care to society, including preventive, promotive, curative, palliative, and rehabilitative services.
Recent Achievements of the Department:
- The department has collaborated with the District Hospital/CHC at Hapur for practical training of interns. Out of a 12-week training period with the department, the interns are sent for 9 weeks of training at CHC Hapur, where they work for 3 weeks each in the Departments of Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, providing them useful exposure and training in handling all types of cases.
- All postgraduate students in the department have been asked to take up community-based research activities as part of their Thesis/Dissertation.
- The nursing staff working in Rural and Urban Health Training Centers, as well as the Lady Medical Officers, were trained in immunization activities at CHC in coordination with the District Immunization Officer in June 2023.
Facilities Available in the Department:
The department has a well-equipped research laboratory especially for postgraduate students, with equipment like dissecting microscopes, compound microscopes, weighing scales, autoclaves, incubators, water testing kits, milk testing kits, etc.
The department also has an ILR and deep freezer for vaccine storage.
Additionally, the department has a well-equipped and well-stocked museum to teach and train students. There are an adequate number of specimens, models, charts, and entomology slides, with models arranged topic-wise to facilitate proper learning.
There is a departmental library with an adequate number of books in Community Medicine and allied subjects, as well as Indian and foreign journals.
The department manages two homely centers: the Rural Health Training Center at Makhimpur and the Urban Health Training Center at Hapur. Both centers are equipped with a clinical laboratory, labor room, and minor OT for care treatment of patients.
