Introduction

Department of Community Medicine deals with the study of health and disease in the population or a defined community or group in order to identify their health problems and needs, and to plan, implement and evaluate health programs and measures to effectively meet these needs. It reaches out to people to provide services for prevention of disease (such as immunization, Antenatal care, health screening etc.), Promotion of health (such as safe water supply and sanitation, vector control measure, tobacco control policy etc.) and provision of primary medical care (treatment of common ailments such as diarrhea, pneumonia, TB, leprosy, malaria, hypertension etc.), where as other branches of medicine largely provide diagnostic and treatment service to patient who come to seek treatment. Similarly Public Health is defined as “The science and art of preventing diseases, Prolonging life and promoting health through organized efforts of society”. For training in above fields, the Department runs two peripheral health centres, one is Rural Health Training Centre at Pilkhuwa and another is Urban Health Training Centre at Hapur. Aim of these Community health centres is to provide field exposure to student and to serve the community . Facilities of immunization are available at both the centres.

Research

  • Coverage evaluation survey of routing immunization among under 5 years children & mothers of Urban & Rural areas of District Hapur.
  • Prevalence of hypertension, awareness and treatment Seeking behavior in rural &urban population of District Hapur.
  • Morbidity pattern and utilization of health services among rural population through organizing general health camps by a medical college of District Hapur.
  • NACP Study of knowledge ,Aptitude & Practices among Medical Students & U.P.
  • RNTCP-A study of T.B & Diabetes among rural & urban population of field Practice Area of Medical College of District Hapur .U.P

 

The faculty members have teaching experience of several years of undergraduate & postgraduate students.

Special achievements

(A) Events Organized by the Department:

  • World Population Day celebration was organized in the Department on 11th July 2013.
  • Breast Feeding Week celebration (1st–7th Aug’ 2013) was done and Poster competition & quiz were organized and talks were delivered by the faculty of Community Medicine and other eminent teachers of SIMS, Hapur on 7-Aug-2013.
  • Nutrition week was organized in the Department during 1st - 7th Sep’ 2013.
  • World AIDS Day celebration was organized on 1st December, 2013.
  • World Health Day celebration was done on 7th April 2014. The theme for the day was “Small bite-Big threat”. On this occasion, poster competition and role play were organized. The key note address was delivered by Dr. Awadhesh Kumar, Additional director, NCDC, Delhi, who was the chief guest for the occasion.

(B) Conference Attended

  • “IAPSMCON UP UK CHAPTER Conference” at Govt. Medical College, Haldwani, Nainital , 18-19October, 2013.
  • “4th Annual conference of UP-UK APPICON,” jointly organized by Deptt. of Physiology & Pharmacology at SIMS, Hapur 28-29 Sep’2013.
  • “Emerging issues in youth & adolescents” held in Delhi in Feb’ 2014

(C) Achivements of the Faculty : Others

  • Internship Training programme was facilitated by Dr. S. C. Gupta & Dr. Hemant Kr. Singh.
  • Cultural activities for year 2013 were organized and facilitated by Dr. Vidya M. Surwade & Dr. Hemant Kr. Singh
  • Dr. S. C. Gupta & Dr. P. N. Bhise worked as Exam Superintendent for various University Examinations.
  • Majority of faculty members were given responsibility of 1st year student’s Mentorship program of the SIMS.
